Transputer Board

( 1989 ) The transputer (TRANSistor comPUTER) was the first general-purpose microprocessor designed specially for use in parallel computing systems.

The name was chosen to indicate that the transputers were destined to play an equally important role in computer construction as transistors had in their day, but they failed to live up to these expectations.

The basic design of a transputer included four high-speed serial connections to another four transputers. Through these connections, vector and tree structures and many other configurations could be built. Transputers were marketed by the British company INMOS in the late 1980s.

The board that is displayed has eight IMST800DG25S transputers.
