Magnetic Tape
( 1951 ) Modelled on cassette tapes, magnetic tapes were developed and introduced in 1951 at the same time as Univac I.
They were able to store a larger volume of information (1,44 MB) in a smaller space than punch cards. Although still sequential, data access was faster.
These tapes have gradually evolved over time, and tape cartridges are still used for backup systems today because they have a large storage capacity.
