## Godel, Kurt (1906-1978)

**M**athematician and logician, Gödel was born on 28 April 1906 in Brno, Czechoslovakia.

**H**is original academic interest was linguistics, but later he switched to mathematics.

**I**n 1924 he was admitted to the University of Vienna to study theoretical physics.

**I**n 1926 his attention switched to mathematics. He was associated for many years with the Vienna Circle, a group of mathematicians who founded the philosophical school known as logical positivism. It was at that time that Gödel became interested in number theory and mathematical logic.
