Godel, Kurt (1906-1978)

Mathematician and logician, Gödel was born on 28 April 1906 in Brno, Czechoslovakia.

His original academic interest was linguistics, but later he switched to mathematics.

In 1924 he was admitted to the University of Vienna to study theoretical physics.

In 1926 his attention switched to mathematics. He was associated for many years with the Vienna Circle, a group of mathematicians who founded the philosophical school known as logical positivism. It was at that time that Gödel became interested in number theory and mathematical logic.
